Tango Sumo's 10 years

Tango Sumo, a company from Morlaix, celebrates its 10 years at Le FAR

An opportunity to (re) discover three of its first shows.

Tango Sumo - 1er Round

Morlaix (29) – Creation in 2000 Street Dance – 45 mn – accessible to all

Three men, a boxing ring with benches and ropes, an improbable referee who plays the accordion, a set turned to itself. In the centre, a turning table invites the audience, so close, in this half closed universe …
The only option for the dancers of 1er and 2ème Round is to face this simple truth, the other one is there, too close to be able to avoid the confrontation. The result of this encounter is the discovery of one another and oneself.

Tango Sumo - 2è Round

Morlaix (29) – Création 2004 Danse de Rue – 35 mn – tout public

At first 4 men alone. Each of them sitting in a pedestal table of bar, soliloquizes his moods or his achievements as an ordinary man. Bar-room philosophising, short stories to kill. We quarrel, we fight, we make friends. And then one of them is bothered by the three others. One against one, two against two or two with two ? They change their mind and they start again. They play, they dance. The furniture is thrown away leaving an empty space. It is a game nobody knows its rules.

Tango Sumo could not content itself with performing only one show in the boxing ring. And if there were four dancers? One by rope who rebound toward this henceforth free centre, to open the space with eight legs. To perform a Deuxième Round where the dance can appropriate the whole space, a dance of men, agile and lively.

Tango Sumo - Expédition Paddock

Morlaix (29) – Creation on 2000 Haunted choreographies – 45 mn – accessible to all

Five men, five beds... They all shared the memory of a closed place. In their haunted eyes is a memory of this restricted space. What they remember from that place is their long insomnias, the expectation of a new day. Clutched on their bed, vessel of wandering, horse of feathers, they imagined long journeys where the world would scroll endlessly. The persistence of their dreams makes them collapse and here they are outside!
